Abstract

Mufti Al-Haram Abu Muhammad ‘Ata Ibn Abi Rabah Al-Makki was born in the era of Usman ibn Affan (r.a). The year of birth is known as 27 AH. He met two hundred companions of the Prophet s.a.w. He was distinguished from his contemporaries in knowledge and wisdom, especially in matters of Hajj. Ata's jurisprudential views influenced the four schools of jurisprudence. His knowledge was not limited to Hajj issues but since the specialization was in Hajj issues, the jurisprudential effects of his views in this context have been reviewed in this research article. These issues include the non-obligation of Umrah for the people of Makkah, No need of having legitimate escort with a woman for Hajj and Umrah, the sharia ruling on going through the meeqaat without ihram (formal dress for pilgrimage), and the obligation of bath for wearing ihram. This article has been written in analytical mode and basic & primary sources have been consulted for originality of the research.
