Abstract

This article covers the historical and current situation of Kashmīr while highlighting the atrocities of the Indian government, and the negligible attitude of Muslim Ummah on this issue. The article covers the conflicting status of Kashmīr and the sufferings of Muslims with the help of Islamic teachings in the light of Qur’ānic verses and Ḥadīth. Undoubtedly, the status of Kashmīr has been controversial since the partition of sub-continent in 1947. The then, British Government allegedly did not clarify Kashmīr’s status and made it a point of contention between the two nascent governments. In the last 72 years, 3 wars out of 4 have been fought between Pakistan and India on Kashmīr issue. Other than conflicting wars, several peace attempts have been made on the diplomatic front. But all efforts end in vain. Millions of Kashmīris have been martyred for 7 decades for the struggle of independence. Thousands of women are raped and a number of Muslims bear the loss of properties. To stop the resistance in response to these atrocities, India deployed one-third of its army in Kashmīr but they also failed to shut down the freedom movement. Last year in August, Indian government amended the article of Indian constitution related to special status of Kashmīr. Afterwards, there is a complete curfew in Kashmīr and the valley is literally converted into the biggest jail of the world. But the role of Muslim Ummah, specifically the Arab Muslim countries is absolutely shameful. They have shown an extreme numbness and negligence and has not provided any help to poor Kashmīrīs even on diplomatic level. Only the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahātīr Muḥammad have raised their voices for Kashmīris on every forum but none has been heard as yet.
