Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlavi as a Seerah Biographer: In “Madarijun Nubuwah wa Darajaatul Futuwah” perspective

Abstract

Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlavi (d.1052 A.H.) was a great scholar of Hadith, Fiqh, Tasawwuf and Seerah. His book “Madarijun Nubuwah wa Darajaatul Futuwah” is a unique master piece in whole Persian Seerah literature. This is perhaps the first detailed and thorough work in Persian language on Seerah. This book can be acknowledged as an Persian Encyclopaedia of Seerah, as it discusses almost all the aspects of the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), like his attributes, miracles, incidents and battles, etc. One of the distinctiveness of this book is that author uses primary sources for the narration of Seerah. By applying Islamic sciences and mechanisms of Shariah, he infers Islamic laws and rulings from Seerah narrations. He offers explanation of dissensions among Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) companions, and defends the Sufism and its beliefs. This article explores the approach and methodology of “Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlavi” in account of interpreting the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
