The Ḥadīth al-ijtihād "Sayyedunā Muʿāz bin Jabal": A Comprehensive Research Review of Key Discussions
Abstract
The Hadith of Hazrat Mu'adh (RA) regarding Ijtihad stands as a cornerstone in Islamic jurisprudence, revered for its authenticity by early scholars. Its transmission through various routes underscores its significance, particularly in affirming the validity of Qiyas. Despite scholarly divergence, the majority uphold Qiyas supported by multiple Quranic verses and Hadiths. However, terminological ambiguity blurs the distinction between Ijtihad and Qiyas, complicating scholarly discourse. Additionally, the integration of Istihsan into Usul al-Fiqh, particularly within the Hanafi school, further nuances the discussion. Despite apparent conflicts with consensus, contextualizing the Hadith elucidates its historical relevance. This research advocates for a holistic approach, synthesizing the Prophetic tradition with Quranic principles, to deepen understanding of both the Hadith and the Quran within Islamic jurisprudence. Through this comprehensive analysis, the study aims to provide valuable insights into the nuanced interpretation of Islamic legal principles, shedding light on the interplay between tradition and scripture in Islamic scholarship.
