Ḥurūf al-Ma‘ānī : Introduction, Importance and Prestige
Abstract
This research article delves into the very impact of “Huroof-ul-Ma’ni” (Words of Meanings) and their key role in the ratiocination of commands, injunctions, rules and regulations from the verse of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. At times, the meanings of these words are evident whereas sometimes their meanings become understandable when they are used in relation to noun and verb. Moreover, these words become an instrument of liaison between noun and verb and sometimes explain their meanings and at times change their state after having an action on them. The number of these words is different according to different Arabic Grammarians. The use of these words highlights various genres of brevity in the Holy Text. In fact, the real secrets of these words come to the fore when they act upon a literary structure. That is the very reason that exegetes, grammarians and scholars of Islamic jurisprudence have given these words much significance in their respective fields. So, this research paper makes a sincere effort in illustrating the true value of “Huroof-ul-Ma’ni” in the realm of Quranic exegesis and Islamic Jurisprudence.
