Preserving employees’ dignity at contemporary workplace: an Islamic perspective

Abstract

Modern-day’s fast-moving work life, where everyone seems to be running for meeting deadlines to display efficiency and enthusiasm, the dignity of employees, which ultimately results in their demoralization, disengagement and job burnout. Protection of employees’ dignity at the workplace has become a challenge for contemporary organizations. This study explores the importance of preserving employees' dignity in the modern workplace from an Islamic perspective. It presents a theoretical model of a dignified workplace based on Islamic teachings, highlighting principles such as Employee Honor, Workplace Security, Compassion, Courteousness, and Employee Privacy. The study concludes that upholding these principles can boost organizational performance and has practical implications for organizations and policymakers.
