THE RELATION BETWEEN ‘ILM UṢŪL FIQH AND ARABIC SCIENCES

Abstract

The Qurān and Sunnah have been revealed in Arabic. These are the two main sources of Islamic law. ‘ILM UṢŪL FIQH is derived from these sources in order to know the rules and regulations regarding human life issues from the Qurān and Sunnah. To understand the Qurān and Sunnah, it is very important to know the Arabic language and ‘ILM UṢŪL FIQH. Therefore, ‘ILM UṢŪL FIQH has such a deep connection with Arabic and its sciences that some of Arabic linguistic issues have not been dealt with by Arabic linguists as deeply and meticulously as they have been described by Uṣūliyyīn. It has been declared obligatory for a mujtahid and an Islamic jurist to know Arabic and its sciences. Because no mujtahid and jurist can derive Sharī‘ah rules from the Qurān and Sunnah perfectly without knowing Arabic language.
