Fundamental Discussions of Islamic Epistemology

Abstract

From an Islamic point of view, since man is God's vicegerent in this world and to enable him to fulfill his responsibilities, God has endowed man with creative and imaginative abilities. It is obligatory for man to incorporate knowledge in the framework provided by Islam. Thus, all kinds of knowledge, be it natural sciences, social sciences or pure sciences, must be understood in terms of the purpose of establishing the Islamic system. The following is to discuss the background of epistemology, the various branches of theology, such as sources, types (manifest and derived), elements in Islam, principles (unity of God, unity of creation, and unity of ideas) and boundaries.
