Abstract
One of the most basic human needs is a balanced diet. According to experts, Hasharat ul ardh that may include insects, reptiles and other creeping things are naturally rich in nutrients. However, it is very important for a Muslim to follow the Shari'ah rules and principles of halal and haram in his diet. The general rule of Islamic law regarding food is that it should be halal and healthy and not harmful to human health. According to this principle, halal standards have been set in different countries for the promotion of halal industry all over the world and for the preparation and supply of useable food for Muslims.There is a jurisprudential disagreement about the status and consumption of various types of Hasharat ul ardh. Whereas, the current halal standards for guiding the global halal industry have been formulated under different jurisprudential schools, national interests and cultural backgrounds.Therefore, even in these standards, there is a difference regarding the use of insects and other creeping things(Hasharat ul ardh).Hence, This article examines the dietary use of Hasharat in the light of Islamic jurisprudence and halal standards. The fact that there is no clear Shari'ah text on the prohibition of all Hasharat.So, this issue falls within the realm of ijtihad. In this regard, the views of the jurists on the use of Hasharat ul ardh and their benefits provide guidance and scope in different situations.
