An analytical study of the thoughts of ancient scholars and contemporaries about the different interpretation of the term “Establishin the Deen”

Abstract

In the middle of 20th century, after the demise of Ottoman Empire, some Islamic movements were triggered by enshrining the concept of Establishing the Deen.The founders of the movements wanted to make Islam inclusive by bringing every facet of life under the umbrella of Islamic ideology even including political and economic affairs. According to their point of view, all the messengers of Almighty Allah were sent to establish the Deen which is only the actual objective of Islam and being a muslim, this one is the duty of everyone to pay his role in this consecrated and most cherished cause. They claimed that their concept was grounded on the Holy Quran and Sunnah. According to another viewpoint of Scholars, the above noted concept of Establishing the Deen is absolutely a new concept; it had never been discussed among the Muslim scholars in Islamic history since hundred years. The author would like to explicate the meaning of “Establishing the Deen” in the light of expository literature and try to overhaul the facts that what the previous Scholars meant by “Establishing the Deen” and how the founders of Islamic movements take it? And to substantiate the difference or connection between classical and contemporary viewpoint.
