The method of the Holy Prophet in the “Khirājī” lands, “Khirāj” And modern applications

Abstract

Islam is a universal religion and it assurances the right of every segment of society. Besides the rights of Muslims, Islam enjoins that Non-Muslims must be treated with kindness and gentleness. The principles given by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) guarantee that the rights of Non-Muslims should not be violated. For instance, the lands obtained by Non-Muslims and the implication of Kharaj (revenue tax) on those lands is a magnificent example of the protection of their rights. This article sheds light upon the definition of Kharaj, the method of the collection and the calculation of land tax. This article also highlights that in which form that land tax will be collected from Non-Muslims and various incidences from Islamic History is also narrated to make Kharaj applicable in the modern era.
