Revisionism: Scope and Historical Perspective

Abstract

The basic aim of this paper is to define Revisionism, provide scope, methodological needs and well- known history of revisionism .Many tools and methodologies have been taken up by orientalists in modern era to examine and re-examine the past works. Revisionism is one of them. This approach has achieved great popularity among various circles of orientalists. Some of them adopted it as a field of study. They are called revisionists. Revisionists are of the view that application of revisionism on Islamic sources is indispensable and inevitable like other scientific, social and historical studies so that their authenticity may be determined. However, they have ulterior motives to undermine the accuracy and veracity of Islam and its teachings. So, it is dire need to understand this approach and examine its history.
