Price Control and Islamic Concept Thereof and a Study of the Opinions of Islamic Jurisprudents

Abstract

Economic system of a society has a vital role in its development and survival. Its importance is both for an individual’s needs and requirements of a society. Sale and purchase system is a prominent component of any market. Like other fields of life, Islam has provided clear and favourable guidelines regarding the matters of market. This research paper is an overview the teachings of Islam about price control mechanism. It shows that generally there is a freedom to fix the prices/rates of market objects according to the needs of demand and supply in a specific period but the ruling authority can control the prices if needed. This paper is also an effort to summarize the intellectual opinions of different scholars given for this system of price control. All major Islamic school of thoughts are agreed upon above mentioned policy that price control is relevant to business community but in special conditions it will be tackled by the government.
