Imar Tahavi and The Art of "jirah o taadeel" Dialectical Method A Special Study of Mushkalil Asar

Abstract

After Quran, sayings of the Holy Prophetﷺ are the fundamental source of teachings of Islam, so according to the saying of Imam Muhammad Bin Sirinفا نظرواعمن تاخذون دینکم  it is obligatory to get help from Jarh-o-Tadeel to examin the chain of narrators.No doubt, the scholars of hadith have considered this art to get hadith from other.Imam Tahavi is one of them who criticizes or praises the narrators during narration of hadith. In this article I have reviewed his book Sharh-o-Mushkil-ul-Aathar regarding Jarh-o-Tadeel. After reading his book, we come to know that Imam Tahavi gets help from this art to examin the chain of narrators.Many times he rejected a hadith and accepted other by using this art to remove the contradiction between hadith. One thing which is also considerable is that during criticizing or praising the narrators, Imam Tahavi uses such words, by which we can easily understand the level of narrators.
