The Restoration of the Downtrodden Strata By Means of Endowment/charity

Abstract

“Waqf” is defined as non-negotiable asset dedicated to charitable cause. Institution of Waqf has played a significant role in the uplift of the poor segment of the society. The poor were the most prominent beneficiaries of it in early era of Islam. They were even provided means of income for long term empowerment and enrichment through Waqf based assets. Now there is a dire need to revive this institution in Pakistan because poor masses of Pakistan need sustainable economic resourceswhich can be enhanced through establishing Waqf based microfinance institutions like Qard Hassan Bank, Awqaf properties investment funds, cash Waqf insurance etc. In this way productive capacity of poor can be increased. This will make them self-sufficient.
