Abstract

Zaad al ma'ad is a master piece and classic work on the sirah of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). In this book Ibne al-Qayyim Al jawziyyah (751 AH) deals with sirah in a unique way. He has derived from it juristic implications, instructions and lessons for practical life abundantly. His predecessor Imam Sohayli had also practiced this type of sirah-writing. Nevertheless, Ibn-e-Qayyim innovated in Fiqh-al-Sirah by expanding it at a large and well-arranged level. This expertise appears in its climax in Zaad al-Ma'ad. He was a great scholar of Tafseer, Hadith and Fiqh also. By applying Islamic sciences and mechanisms of shariah he has authenticated the sirah narrations firstly and then, infers out of them Islamic law and rulings. This style of sirah writing has become popular and useful in twentieth century. Later Islamic literature, especially sirah-writing has been very much influenced by Zaad al Ma'ad, as books are now being written bearing the title of fiqh-al-sirah. This article consists of a critical analysis of Zaad al-Ma'ad in respect with fiqh al-sirah.
