Maulana Muhammad Zakariya Kandhlawi Methodology in Narrating the Riwāyat-e-Seerah (Special Study of the “Fazail-e-A'maal”)

Abstract

Maulana Muhammad Zakaria Kandhalvi was one of the prominent figures, who played a vital role in the formation of the world-famous Tablighi Jamaat, a worldwide movement for preaching in the Indian sub-continent. He was also prominent among the scholars and writers who devoted their energies to fulfilling the writing and compilation needs of da'wah and preaching for the said movement. In his book "Fazail-e Aamal (Virtues of Deeds)", he collected useful material from Qur'an and Sunnah in the virtue and encouragement of various deeds and acts of worship. There are many hadith in the book. Hadith and Seerah are co-related Islamic sciences. Hadith traditions are one of the basic sources of Seerah traditions. In the said book, a large number of traditions related to Prophetic era has been described. It would be interested to investigate about the criterion of the selection stories of the said era. Moreover, this study would shed light on the specific style of the author.
